Description

Tegaki is so addictive... @___@

This time I decided to draw my hero, in a way, amongst fictive characters.

Needless to say, I LOVE that graphic novel... I've read that pretty cyan paperback comic so many times that the pages are falling out. No seriously, the first half of the book is just loose pages and the other half is starting to fall apart too.
At the time I bought it I was as deranged as the main character himself, so one of the reasons I fell hard for the book was how deeply I could relate to the main character (don't fear me plz C: k thnx bai ), but one other thing about it is how insanely well made it is! Just open any page and look at the panels, look at the camera angles..! Mr. Vasquez is in all ways a genius, just let that be said. I also loved all those little comments he'd left around on his pages, like commenting his own work whether it was in a sarcastic way or in an explainable way. I remember forming a rare smile when I realized there were more people like me who enjoyed making odd little comments like that.
Most comic artist seem to try and make everything so clean, so pure and well structured. No disturbing elements whatsoever.
They make great comics, yes, but how many actually manage to create something that you'd wanna read over and over and over until the whole fricken' thing falls apart??
Not many, I can assure you that. But Jhonen Vasquez manages to do just that! There's always something more. The first time you read the story, you'll be focusing on speech bubbles and the characters. But you'll find yourself stopping many times because you suddenly notice something that triggers your curiosity, like the little comments or the ever changing images on Nny's t-shirt. So you read it a second time, and this time you pay more attention to the details. Then you read it again, and again, because there's always something! And that's one of the things I truly love about this book. It's never a boring moment, and there's always something left to be discovered!
Like, I've read it innumerable times, but even to this day I'll sometimes find myself suddenly noticing something I didn't see before. Even after all these years!
The story itself is brilliant, absolutely brilliant! I love the sense of humor in it too, but there's also some deep moments - like the "over the stars" one that the fans will remember, that one moved me - and there actually are some cute moments - like when Nny went out with Devi - and then there are the intensely exciting parts.

Out of all the comics and graphic novels I've EVER read, this one by far beats all of the others. At least that's my opinion.

Wow, I could write an entire essay about how much I like this book and why, lol, but I'll probably bore you to death...

But if you haven't read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, then DO it!

Oh, and don't forget to pick up Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors.. x]
